Real Vs. Fake

Welcome to my blog column dedicated to the art of the comparison between real and fake designer bags! If you’re a fashion enthusiast or just love the allure of designer purses, you know how crucial it is to distinguish genuine pieces from fakes.

This section is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently identify the real deal from the fakes.

Can You Spot A Fake Hermès Birkin? A Guide to Authentic vs Replica Hermès Birkin Bags

Can you tell which Birkin is fake and which one is real?

Many people are afraid to buy a fake Hermès Birkin bag, both knowingly or unknowingly. Considering these bags can run up to the $100s of thousands (especially if they are exotic leather editions) it makes sense to KNOW your Hermès before you embark upon the re-seller market to make sure you don’t get cheated by a seller. Even if you are looking for a fake it is important to know what key aspects of the bag are important to get a good knockoff vs. a piece of junk.  In this article I will be comparing my replica Hermès Birkin (which I previously reviewed here) to an authentic Birkin in the same model. Please note that the replica being used to compare to the authentic bag is a super fake so the quality is very high – your average fake bag will not be as good! At the end of the article I will reveal which bag is fake! Put on your detective glasses and try to spot the fake to see if you know your Hermès authentication as well as you do!

  1. Slouchiness is not necessarily a sign that your bag is either fake or real!

Before I begin to go through key things to pay attention to when looking at a fake vs. real Birkin, I would like to note that you do not need to pay attention to the slouchiness of the bags. This is not a sign that will indicate whether the bag you are examining is fake or real. The bags featured both are made with Togo leather however the difference is that one bag is brand new, thus the leather is still quite stiff and so the shape of the bag is also more stiff. However as your Togo leather Birkin ages the bag naturally becomes more slouchy and this is part of the look of the Togo leather that many Hermès fans love, while some others prefer to keep the shape of the bag stiff and opt for other leathers which are better at keeping the shape! Look below at a well aged authentic Birkin in Togo leather to see how the slouchiness tends to look. If your brand new Hermès bag’s shape is really out of whack however this is a sign that your bag is most likely fake since the bag should have a clean shape when it is new!

As you can see the leather on this bag has slouched quite a bit – it is a natural part of an aging Togo leather Hermès Birkin.

2. Take a look at the stamping of the Hermès logo.

An authentic bag’s stamp should be clean and uniform, however on fake bags the stamp usually looks unclean – a.k.a spotty and irregular. Take a look at the stamps on both bags, as pictured below, to see which looks better/worse.

Which bag has better stamping?

3. Take a look at the stitching.

Hermès stitching should be done on a slant – not a straight line. If you see the stitching on your bag is done in a straight manner the bag is 100% fake. This is probably the easiest thing to look at to weed out a very bad fake. Keep in mind however that if the threading is slanted, this does not mean that is 100% real, since many replica manufacturers are aware of this and stitch their bags accordingly. As you can see both bags pictured in this article feature slanted stitching.

4. Take a look at the hardware.

The font of the Hermès stamp on the hardware should be thin and elegant. If you notice a boxy or thick font the bag is definitely fake! Additionally the letters should not be too far apart on the stamping.

5. Take a look at the inside strap of the bag!

The strap’s cutout should be done nice and cleanly, and the threading should continue to be clean. Additionally you should see some numbers engraved into the inside of the strap. These refer to the production run in which the bag was produced. If there are no numbers the bag you have is definitely a fake!

6. Take a look at the leather of the bag!

The leather on a Hermès bag should be rich and feel buttery smooth – especially if it is a Togo leather bag. You can use your basic instincts when judging the leather – it should be smooth to the touch and feel luxurious – these bags are pricey for a reason after all!

So do you think you’ve guessed it? Which bag did you think was real, and which did you think was fake? Well time for the grand reveal… the bag on the right is fake! The bag on the left is real. Did you guess right or were you confused? Well if you were confused don’t feel to bad since as I mentioned earlier the fake being compared to the original in this article is a superfake or counter quality replica which means it is the best of the best when it comes to knockoffs. It’s hard for authentication experts to judge it to be fake, let alone the average consumer! Leave a comment below letting me know how accurate your authentication skills were!

Can You Spot a Fake Louis Vuitton Bag? Authentic vs. Replica Louis Vuitton Neverfull Comparison

louis-vuitton-neverfull-authentication-guide-fake-vs-real

One bag is a GM (the one on the left with the white background) while the other is an MM so please keep that difference in mind while reading this guide!

Louis Vuitton is and always will be one of the most wanted designer brands out there! The Neverfull bag specifically is one of their most famous bags – celebs and fashionistas from all walks of life have shown their love for the bag. I personally love the Neverfull because it is one of the most functional bags in my wardrobe – it is big and fits EVERYTHING! Especially if you go for the bag in its largest size – the GM! This handbag review will compare an authentic Louis Vuitton Neverfull Mimosa bag to a replica version of the same bag. So can you tell off the bat which is fake? Whether your answer is yes or no scroll down below to see if you’re right!

louis-vuitton-neverfull-authentication-guide-fake-vs-real-2

1) Look at the canvas quality of the bag

This is a hard difference to spot between these 2 bags since the canvas quality is on point for the replica, but a bad knockoff will have a plastic-y feel to the canvas material. The canvas refers to the monogrammed brown material used for the body of the bag.

louis-vuitton-neverfull-authentication-guide-fake-vs-real-3

2) Look at the stitching of the bag at the sides & underneath the bag

Once again the replica bag featured in this post is of a very high quality so it is hard to notice a major flaw, but make sure that the side of the bag’s stitching aligns. The shapes on the Monogram Canvas should also align on the sides of the bag. If you spot poor or spotty stitching, or stitching that is very loose quickly then you most likely have a bad fake on your hands. Looking underneath the bag is very important as many replica sellers get lazy when it comes to the bottom of a bag and cut corners on a spot they think most people don’t pay attention to so make sure you peek underneath!

louis-vuitton-neverfull-authentication-guide-fake-vs-real-4

3) Look inside the bag to see the quality of the lining

As mentioned before replica sellers often cut corners on areas they perceive to be less important on a bag such as the interior so make sure to look inside your potential purchase before spending any money! The interior of a Louis Vuitton neverfull is a cotton lining that is sturdy. Make sure to pay attention to the lining print and the pocket where the Louis Vuitton logo is printed. If anything looks off or the logo looks funny you may have a fake on your hands. The interior of the authentic bag in this case has a bit of a cleaner look around the seams of the bottom however other than that the two interiors look virtually identical.

louis-vuitton-neverfull-authentication-guide-fake-vs-real-5

4) Look inside the bag to see the stamping

One final think you can take a look at in order to determine whether your bag is fake or real is to take a look at the stamping on the interior label of the bag (which is on the pocket on the inside). Not only should you inspect the stitching around the label but you should also look at the way the words are stamped. If you see the T’s connect in “VUITTON” or if you see poor stamping quality this may indicate you have a fake. The replica bag pictured above is of a high quality (or it can be considered a superfake) so once again it is hard to spot these issues on that specific bag.

So how did you do? Did you easily figure out which bag was the fake? Well if you haven’t by now it was the one of the right hand side of the screen (the bag with the darker pictures/non-white background). This bag is actually a very good replica (a superfake or counter quality replica) so the tips given in this article don’t necessarily apply, but most replica bags out there are not superfakes so you will be able to easily spot these flaws. I hope this guide is helpful for either a replica buyer looking to buy a copy of the Louis Vuitton neverfull handbag (so they know how to purchase a top quality bag) as well as anyone looking to buy an authentic and wanting to make sure they don’t get duped into paying the authentic price tag for a knockoff Louis Vuitton!  Feel free to comment below and let me know whether you’d go authentic or fake for this Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag!

Celine Nano Luggage Bag from counterluxury.cn Review/ Comparison (in pics)!

Hello everyone! Sorry for being so M.I.A – I’ve had a really busy summer so far and had very little time to update the blog. Anyhow I am back now and boy oh boy do I have a great summer haul to share. My latest purchases include a Hermes 25cm Birkin, some Chanel, Chloe, Prada, and Celine (which is being featured in this article!). I will be updating the blog with all my reviews in the upcoming days and am super excited to share how awesome my latest replica purchases are.

So let’s begin with my latest Celine nano – I bought a tricolor nano from Counter Lux (their latest link is at www.counterluxury.cn). I was trying to be more “fun” so instead of getting a solid bag which is my usual preference I got the combination of olive/cream/black which is still quite neutral however the mixup of colors is enough for the bag to be considered “fun” in my books. Without further hesitation here is a pic of the bag:

I really LOVE the color combination on this bag. I have noticed a fair amount of improvements in the quality of the Celine Nano since the last time I purchase my black nano from Perfect Celine, including better stitching, form, sturdiness, and weight in terms of the hardware. The hardware on my old Celine nano (black) is much lighter in comparison to the new hardware and the new hardware just has a better look and feel overall. The bag is also a million times better than my first Celine replica which I had purchased a long time ago which looks utterly terrible when placed side by side with the new bag. I have taken pictures of all the bags side by side for you to feast your eyes on. So go ahead and take a look below:

The new hardware is phenomenal!

When you hold up the hardware it is nice and heavy!

This is my really old Celine (bought a couple of years ago) vs. my latest Celine. You can see a very shiny leather that looks kind plastic-y on the old bag, but the new leather is more matte and luxe.

MUST READ: Good Fakes VS. Bad Ones: Louis Vuitton Replica Guide

Can you spot the better replica? Hint: look at the overall composition of the two bags. They may not look overly different but the symmetry is more accurate in the left bag than the right one.

Hello y’all!

This post will serve as a very important guide to anyone looking to buy a knockoff or replica bag for the first time for any brand, even though the focus will be on Louis Vuitton in this particular post. The points made however are applicable when shopping for any brand out there so pay close attention especially if it is your first time you may be purchasing a fake bag!

Anyone who has bought a fake or replica bag out there knows that we are bombarded with many claims of various qualities and it seems like every replica seller in town has the best purse if we listen to their claims. But the truth is that there is a tiered system of quality when it comes to replicas and I would say as an educated guess after buying so many for so many years that the tiers are roughly 3 levels. On the third bottom rung is the super disgusting and really really bad knockoffs that never deserve to see the light of day on anyone’s arm or shoulder (yet they still unfortunately do – we’ve all seen one). These are the bags that give replica bags a bad rep and make people think rightfully so that they’d rather be caught dead than wearing a replica purse. However if you are a seasoned replica purchaser you will have most likely come across the second tier as well. The second tier is in the middle – the bags aren’t bad, they get about 75-80% of the original right and they can pass for a fairly decent fake. These were the kind of bags I myself bought when I first dabbled in replica shopping.

But the third first is where it is at my friends if you are looking for quality. This is the tier that exceeds the 90% zone in terms of accuracy and can please even the nittiest of buyers. This is the only type of replica I personally buy as I like to collect bags and these are pretty much as good as the originals in my opinions. Do all brands come in all 3 tiers? I’m not sure and can’t answer this with 100% accuracy but from my purchasing experience most of the popular brands are covered in all 3 tiers. In this post I will compare what I think is a 1st tier replica Louis Vuitton Favorite in Monogram Canvas (which I bought from Designer Discreet) with a 2nd tier Louis Vuitton Favorite in Monogram Canvas (I bought this one a long time ago from a replica seller through email). I didn’t bother buying a 3rd tier for the comparison as you can simply use your imagination to come up with how ugly the bag in that tier looks.

As you can see the replica on the left side has a nice sheen to it like the authentic Louis Vuitton purses while the bag on the right is more dull.

A closeup of the bag on the right. The quality of the canvas is certainly not bad – but not as good the one on the right.

Top down is where a difference is totally visible. Just taking quick look at the two bags can help one see that the one on the left is superior to the one on the right. The overall composition and structure of the bag is very on point with the original LV.

The canvas is very vibrant on this replica and the stitching is very well done making it a 1st tier or counter quality replica.

Once again a more lux sheen can be observed on the bag to the left.

The chain is more faded for the 2nd tier replica while the 1st tier replica is nice and vibrant and gold!

Chanel Real VS Replica Identification Guide

chanel jumbo flap real vs fake replica vs authentic guide

Can you tell which is real and which is fake? Keep in mind the lighting makes the bags colors look slightly different but both are equally black in person!

Hey guys!

I just wanted to do a quick post sharing what to look for when shopping for a Chanel handbag to make sure you are getting the best bang for your buck when shopping for an authentic or fake new, or used, or replica purse. Firstly I’d like to start off by saying Chanel is a very hard to find replica as the parent company actively seeks out any replica sellers who sell their products (and when you see the superfakes you will understand why) as they want to stop the devaluation train for Chanel. This is completely fair and I would do the same if I were Chanel as well.

I do however want to start with a few gripes I have with them, as a Chanel purse lover. Firstly dear Chanel why do you no longer coat your hardware with 24k gold? As a serious Chanel lover and collector I can say that there is a significant decline in quality within the Chanel brand over the years as they seemed to have lowered their production standards. I highly recommend well kept vintage bags that have the gold coating as these bags are in my opinion from a Chanel era in which quality was at the top of their priorities. Anyways enough chit chat. This guide is meant to give you a glimpse at a comparison between an authentic and replica Chanel with tips for spotting fake bags which have been very poorly constructed.

One thing I would like to say before providing this information is that Chanel replica manufacturers have been getting increasingly accurate to the point that I have heard many stories about fake Chanels being returned to authentic boutiques, which is really scary if you are dropping a couple of thousands on what you hope will be a real bag. Overall remember to be vigilant even if shopping in an authentic boutique! Take a look at the guide, and I hope it helps everyone out there!

When looking at the first photo I am sure a lot of people were confused – aren’t both bags real? Well they aren’t. These pictures feature a superfake Chanel being compared to an authentic so the subtleties are more minute and harder to spot, but I thought it would be worth showing! I will do another guide soon that outlines the really bad Chanel fakes I encourage you to burn if you see in person, on the spot, since they totally misconstrue the beauty of the originals, and are a total disgrace to Miss Coco’s designs.

chanel real vs fake replica vs authentic jumbo double flap guide 2

The replica looks a bit more “puffy” since it is newer compared to the used jumbo pictured right. Overly puffy bags are a sign of a fake Chanel however this comes down to the number of stitches! All Chanel bags (authentic and superfake) look a bit more puffy (but not overly) when new because they haven’t been subjected to the use and abuse of being worn on a daily basis! I’ll add a picture of the superfake Chanel jumbo once it has reached a point of use comparable to the authentic bag on the right!

A shot of the bottom of the bags. Make sure if you are shopping for a jumbo that there is a stitch down the middle otherwise you are dealing with a terrible fake.

chanel real vs fake replica vs authentic guide interior flap leather 6

The interior C’s are very important! In very poor Chanel replicas you will see very strange stitching that is either too skinny or too fat. The bag on the right is an authentic Chanel’s stitching while the bag on the left is a superfake that gets it close enough (the camera’s angle for the photo makes it look a little strange however).

chanel real vs fake replica vs authentic inside double flap guide 4

Depending on the production period of the bag a lighter or darker interior can be expected. What you should pay attention to inside the flap is the leather quality – if it seems fake or non-genuine leather then you are dealing with a bad replica my friends.

chanel real vs fake replica vs authentic guide hologram sticker jumbo 7

The interior hologram sticker is always a give away with a replica. Make sure to really pay attention to this if shopping on auction sites for a used authentic purse as the Chinese models usually have a standard number (10218184) that they use. However I have heard of cases of custom stickers being printed so once again be vigilant!

chanel real vs fake replica vs authentic guide hardware stamping 5.jpg

The hardware on the right is that of an authentic bag. The one on the left is the hardware of the superfake. As you can see both are equally well done. The heaviness of the hardware is a key giveaway to the authenticity of the bag. Once again many vintage pieces are coated with real gold for authentic Chanels, however their newer lines are not, and no replicas are coated with gold.

fashionophile ad chanel jumbo black double flap

The fashionphile ad I used to compare the replica and authentic. As you can see the bag is going for $5250 on fashionphile, while the supefake cost 1/10th of that.

Overall I hope this guide is helpful and makes everyone a wiser shopper when looking for Chanel whether it be online or in person as you are looking to drop down a lot of money on these beauties so make sure it is worth it!
