Hello everyone!
This is the first review of a five part series outlining my Summer ’17 haul (to read my sneak peak article click here), and the first bag I will be reviewing based on popular demand is the Goyard St. Louis tote which I got from DD. The Goyard St. Louis tote is highly sought after, and unlike many other brand (ahem ahem LV) you aren’t likely to spot them out and about as much. This is what really attracted me to the Goyard St. Louis tote because it’s nice to have a bag that is undercover luxury. The Goyard St. Louis tote really reminds me of the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, and I like to liken them as cousins that are similar yet very different. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull in the classic Monogram print is very in your face – the brand LV’s initials are splattered all over the bag.
The Goyard St. Louis tote on the other hand is much more demure, and the print is optical-illusion-esque with small logo brand imprints all over. Like the Neverfull the Goyard St. Louis is very functional and versatile offering a LOT of space, and a neat little pouch on the interior to keep your small stuff in. The bag has gorgeously soft leather finishings. Now as a replica bag, I will say that I have not seen many good copies of the Goyard St. Louis. There are a lot of mediocre replicas out there but they aren’t made with the same care and usually something about the pattern tends to be off. However, as usual, I ordered a counter quality copy of the bag which means that these small things are taken into consideration by the manufacturers and this is what make the bag look pretty much identical to the original.
Anyways I will let the pictures speak for themselves (they are worth a thousand words after all), and have a peak below to see them for yourself. Let me know how good of a fake you think it is and if you can spot anything “off” about the bag in the comments.
The replica has plastic wrap on the handle, something the original never will. Also, at the base of the handle there should be two double stitches in the center, not just one. At the top of the handle where it attaches to the bag there should be one double stitch.
This is not true of the plastic – I have seen a few posts where a gift was tagged as fake when it was authentic. The Anjou tote I bought out of the 63rd street had plastic on the handles that had to be carefully cut off, and that was just about a month ago, as did my St. Louis a few years ago. Just wanted to update as this is a popular misconception that gets a lot of gift givers in hot water.

Hi JJ, this particular bag was purchased from Counterlux which is now defunct. Since it was purchased 2 years ago I’m hoping that the new replicas produced by quality sellers are even better!
There’s no serial number inside the wallet. Maybe it’s on the strap for the wallet? That’s the only downside I saw. Otherwise it looks great! Especially the logo in the wallet. Looks great!

It looks so legit!! Is this the legit size of the super big bag? Ive bought replicas before and they are always like a medium size bag not the big one that could be used for a diaper bag or something.

Here is why this looks fake: The geometric designs aren’t unique. On a genuine Goyard, every mark is hand stenciled and unique. You can tell there is a lot of repetition in design on this one because it is etched over and over by a laser or printer. Also the interior is WAY OFF. Wrong color, should be the same color as the dust bag (mustard.) All very hard details to detect, especially to the general public, but I thought I would add since everyone thinks this looks authentic!
Goyard bags are all uniform now. There is a whole thread on this on the purseforum. They stopped hand painting the bags a long time ago and now they all look alike which is really sad. You can’t compare vintage Goyard to their modern day counterparts which all look uniform so I don’t think the stenciling makes the bag look fake.
for me the bottom of the handle where it attaches to the bag is a dead giveaway for not being authentic, it looks off, kind of junky and cheap, those little stray thread pieces sticking out, and a real goyard won’t lay flat like that, it is too structured to lay flat like that
I own two authentic Goyards, and from what I’ve seen it’s a very difficult print for even the best reps to get right. Even for this one, which is pretty good, the Y’s don’t quite touch; on the authentic bags, they’re so close they sometimes even overlap.
Goyard has a three dimensional look to it because of the textured canvas and matte stenciling. Does this have the same dimensional look to it? From the pics, it looks like digital print on canvas, but I could be wrong. Would you say the color saturation is the same? Also, the font isn’t as crisp. Can you recommend a vendor who sells identical quality? Thanks
The shine looks good but the “Y”s don’t touch on replicas. Never seen a rep with Y prints just like auth. But hey, no reps is perfect!
